Zefrino is a 65-year-old gentleman from Uganda. He is a married man with two children, both of whom are married and self-employed. His wife engages in small-scale farming for their survival, while Zefrino works as a security guard at a hotel, earning a modest salary to take care of his family. For the past year, Zefrino has lived with a painful swelling in his neck. He can no longer wear a suit coat, and he shared that the disfigurement caused by the swelling has made him a laughingstock in his community. He struggles to continue working as a security guard, and his quality of life has diminished significantly. Without treatment, the swelling will continue to grow and to become more painful. Because of financial constraints, Zefrino has been limited to visiting local health centers, where he has been provided with pain relievers as his only treatment. When he learned about our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, he sought their help. On November 14th, surgeons at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale will remove the mass. Now Zefrino needs your help to raise $137 to fund this procedure. Zefrino said: “I appeal to donors to support my surgery so that I can resume my work as a security guard and support my family.”

Silvester is a 63-year-old man who is a retired accountant and now practices small-scale farming with his wife. They have 3 children whom they have managed to educate through farming. They live in a 3-room brick house, with their main source of cooking energy being firewood. For 2 years, Silvester has had a left hydrocele, or swelling in his groin area. The area of swelling has progressively increased in size. He visited a nearby health unit and had some fluid drained out, which helped him to feel healed and normal. After a short while, the swelling reappeared and again more fluid was drained out. He reports mild pains but is very worried about what could happen if the fluid keeps accumulating. Surgery has been recommended and, fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. Silvester is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on August 18th. AMH is requesting $170 to fund the surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Sylvester says, “I pray that I may get well through surgery. I will continue with farming with my wife afterwards.”

Pov is a rice farmer and mother of four from Cambodia. She lives in Kandal province with her husband, their youngest son, and his wife. Pov's husband and son also work in the rice fields. In her free time, Pov enjoys spending time with her family and cooking for them. In September, Pov slipped during a monsoon rain and dislocated her right elbow. Since then, she has been treated by a traditional healer in her village, but the dislocation has not been resolved. Currently, she is in pain and cannot flex her elbow joint. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On October 23rd, Pov will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $483. This procedure will improve the function in her arm and eliminate pain. Pov contributed $99 to her care. She shared, "I hope I can move my arm again so I can go back to work and take care of my family."
