Peter is a young boy from Kenya. He is the only child in his family and a 1st-grade student in primary school. His mother says that he likes to draw and play with his peers while at home and at school. The family comes from Gathaiti village, Gatundu in Kiambu County. Peter's mother is a housewife, and his father is a boda boda (motorcycle for hire) driver who works in the village. Peter has clubfoot on his right foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Peter traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on February 27th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,286 to fund Peter's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily and wear shoes. Peter's mother said, “I seek support to help my son undergo surgery and walk like other children and improve his self-esteem while in school and at home.”

John is a toddler boy from Kenya who is the second-born in a family of three children. His parents separated a while back, and he and his siblings now live at their ancestral home with their mother. John’s mother works around the community, such as tending to farm animals for her neighbors. John's grandparents also help support the young family. Since last year, John has been experiencing pain and discomfort caused by a right inguinal hernia. Although he was a playful boy, John has not been able to be as active as he was before the hernia. Fortunately, on March 14th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery with the support of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. African Mission Healthcare is requesting $585 to help fund John's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. John’s mother said, “Since last year, I have been stressed as I had no idea what to do. I’m hopeful that he will be treated.”

Chivorn is a four-year-old pre-schooler from Kandaal province in Cambodia. As an only child, he stays home with his mother or accompanies her when she goes to work in a hair and nail salon. His father is a welder. Chivorn loves all flavors of ice cream- when his mother lets him have it- and enjoys playing with his toys. In October 2022, Chivorn cut his left little finger when playing around a rickshaw. His parents took him to a local health center, where his wound was sutured. A scar contracture has developed from his wound, tightening the skin around his finger. He is now unable to hold a cup or a pencil, and he feels pain when he tries to bend his finger. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is seeking $495 to fund contracture release surgery for Chivorn, which is scheduled to take place on April 21st at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. After this procedure, Chivorn should regain full use of his finger and hand again. Chivorn's mother said: "We hope that the scar will release and he will be able to move his little finger."
