Charles is a 6-year-old boy and the third-born child in a family of five. He has a twin sibling with whom he enjoys playing with and has an undeniable bond. The mother is a stay-at-home wife, while the father is a farmer who relies on agriculture for sustenance and income to cover their day-to-day expenses. However, due to the current climate changes, the returns from his farming activities have been quite minimal. Consequently, he has had to find another day job to earn some extra money. Charles was recently diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. A condition where both of his legs are bowed outward. It began when he was 2 years old and has continued to worsen over the years. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, the bowing of his legs has made him walk with a side-to-side gait. Charles quickly becomes tired when engaging in activities that require mobility. Despite the parents’ efforts to seek treatment for his condition, living in a remote area has made it difficult for them to access the appropriate treatment. To address his condition, Charles requires corrective surgery, known as bilateral Sofield-Miller osteotomy to improve the alignment and functionality of his legs. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), has been able to diagnose Charles and create a treatment plan. The procedure is scheduled to take place on August 1st. Treatment will hopefully restore Charles's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. AMH is now requesting $880 to help fund the corrective surgery for Charles. Charles says: “I wish to get better and for my legs to look normal. Hopefully, after this treatment, my legs will be fine.”

Mark is a 23-month-old boy and the youngest in a family of four children from Marugu village. Mark's father is a laborer, doing farm work at neighboring farms, and his mother is a homemaker. Mark's parents recently took him to a health center, where he was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Mark has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and other complications in the future. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) is able to help, and Mark is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on June 19th. AMHF is requesting $483 to cover the cost of the procedure. Mark's father shared, "We saw the dangers of this condition on TV and would not like the same to happen to our son. Kindly assist us so that he can be back to a normal boy."

Proscovia is a 29-year-old lady from Uganda. She had been employed in a factory for the past five years. However, when she became pregnant, she was dismissed from the payroll due to the factory's policy of not allowing employees with babies. This left her with no choice but to become the primary caregiver for her baby. Her husband works as a security assistant at a supermarket. Unfortunately, both lack the means to raise the necessary funds for the surgery that she now needs. For the past two years, she has been experiencing progressive neck swelling which is worsening. Proscovia has begun to experience troubling symptoms including speech difficulties, and is unable to talk well anymore. Even small activities cause her to become easily fatigued. Moreover, she sometimes struggles to breathe appropriately and experiences profuse sweating, especially at night. She was diagnosed with multinodular goiter. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Proscovia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 4th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money. Proscovia shared quietly, “I kindly seek consideration and support for my surgery. I will be very grateful and live a better quality of life as I look for another job for a living.”
