Nan lives with her mother, father, sister, and brother. Nan and her sister run a food stall, and her brother is a teacher. Her parents are both subsistence farmers who raise pigs and sell them yearly. During her free time, Nan enjoys spending quality time with her family. At the age of six, Nan experienced a period of whole-body swelling, which thankfully subsided after a few days. Similarly, when she turned 14, she experienced rapid heartbeat and occasional difficulty breathing, but these symptoms alleviated over time. Without comprehensive examination or treatment for 15 years, her breathing difficulties and fatigue severely returned in January 2022. She then underwent an echo and was diagnosed with atrial septal disorder (ASD). The doctor scheduled to perform an ASD closure procedure on her heart on August 24th. Facing financial constraints, she sought treatment through Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), a partner organization of Watsi, with the hope of securing financial support to facilitate her access to essential treatment. Nan mentioned, “I feel sad that I am so tired and cannot work. I am also worried about my parents because I cannot support them right now. I was concerned with the cost of treatment but now, I am happy that I will receive help with my treatment. Thank you to the donors.”

Luana is the only child of her mother and father. Her mother is a college student hoping to become a doctor, and her father is a market vendor. They live in the Amazon basin of northeastern Bolivia. Luana was born with a condition called ventricular septal defect, in which a hole exists between the two lower chambers of her heart; blood leaks through this hole without passing through her lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving her weak and short of breath. Luana also has Down syndrome. Our partner International Cardiac Alliance is requesting $1,500 to fund cardiac surgery which will help her to grow up healthy and active. Luana's mother shares, "We are so grateful that the hospital selected our daughter to have surgery, and we are praying everything will go well!"

Srey Nich is a 19-year-old student who lives in Phnom Penh with her older brother, who helps support the family by working as an administrative assistant. Her parents are both rice farmers and live in their rural hometown 2 hours away. Srey Nich has just graduated high school, and is preparing to start university. In her free time, she likes checking her social media and going to the library. In 2020, Srey Nich was in a motorbike accident that caused a fracture in her left femur (thigh bone). She went to a local clinic and doctors implanted hardware to heal her fracture. Now, the fracture has healed and the hardware is causing pain and difficulty walking. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) can help. On August 16th, Srey Nich will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will help her walk easily again. She is able to contribute to the cost of the surgery and needs help raising $304 to fully fund the procedure. Srey Nich is hoping to start school without pain in the future.
