Soeun is a 67-year-old rice farmer from the Prey Veng province. She is married with two sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. Currently, she lives with her husband and three of her grandchildren. These days she has very little free time, but when she does have some time to herself, she likes to go to her local village pagoda to pray. About one year ago, Soeun developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision and sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, thus is unable to travel on her own. When Soeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 8th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Soeun needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She said, "I hope my vision improves, and I can do housework, take care of my grandchildren, and get around easily by myself."

SeyHa is a 27-year-old potato farmer from Cambodia. He and his wife live in Kep province with their four-year-old son. His wife is a homemaker and stays home to care for their son. Before his accident, he enjoyed playing football with his friends. In February 2021, he was on his motorbike when he collided with a car. He lost consciousness and fractured his right femur. He was sent to a government hospital in Phnom Penh - approximately three hours away from Kep- where doctors inserted sign nail hardware to heal his fracture. A sign nail stabilizes a fractured bone and enables bone healing. His bone is now united, and SyHa wants to remove the hardware. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On February 10th, SeyHa will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $304. He still has an aching pain in his right femur due to the sign nail hardware and is hopeful the procedure will help him to walk easily again and return to full activity. He shared: "I hope the hardware will be removed easily and I can continue to work on my farm to feed my wife and son."

Phearun is a 32-year-old mom of two from Cambodia. She is divorced from her husband and has a 12-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. Phearun stays home to care for her children and the cooking and cleaning of their home. She lives in northwestern Cambodia and traveled over five hours to reach our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Five months ago, Phearun was injured in a motor vehicle collision that fractured and dislocated her right hip. She underwent emergency surgery at a local hospital, but her hip is still dislocated. As a result, she is experiencing acute pain and has to walk with a walker, as she is unable to put any weight on her right leg. Doing so can cause secondary injuries to the surrounding blood vessels, nerves, ligaments, and tissues in her hip. She needs to undergo surgery to prevent long-term damage from his dislocation. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On February 14th, Phearun will undergo a fracture repair procedure to relieve her pain and allow her to walk independently again. CSC is requesting $483 to fund this procedure. Phearun said: "After surgery, I hope I can walk again and take care of my children."
