Porheang, a 41-year-old custodial worker from Phnom Penh, lives with her mother. Recently, her father passed away, which has led her to dedicate most of her time to supporting her family in making funeral arrangements and preparing for the upcoming Buddhist rituals. During her free time, she finds enjoyment in watching Cambodian soap operas. Around three years ago, Porheang had an ear infection. This infection caused her left ear's tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, to perforate. For this reason, Porheang experiences pain, ear discharge, tinnitus, and hearing loss. She cannot communicate clearly with others as she used to and frequently spends her limited money at the pharmacy for medications that do not work long-term. Porheang traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 19th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, requests $487 to fund this procedure covering medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She shared, "I hope I can feel better and hear my friends and family."

Meet Samnang, a 3-year-old toddler from Cambodia who loves eating mangos and rice porridge and playing with his two older sisters. His parents work in a nearby village as potato and corn farmers. As Samnang is not in school yet, he stays home with relatives. In February 2023, Samnang suffered burns from a gasoline fire near his house. He was immediately taken to a hospital in a nearby province for treatment, where he remained for one month. Samnang has continued to receive follow-up care at a clinic closer to his house. The doctors there suggested the family travel to Phnom Penh to seek further care for burn scarring. Samnang's left hand has developed burn scar contractures, tightening the skin around his fingers and wrist and limiting the function of his hand. When Samnang's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled for six and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 1st, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help improve his hand function. CSC is requesting $495 to fund this surgery. His family raised $100 for his care. His mother shared her hope that, with treatment, Samnang can use his hand more easily and be able to do things independently.

Sophanna is a 36-year-old garment factory worker. She lives in Kampot province with her husband and two children. Due to a chronic medical condition, her husband has not been able to work the past couple of years. Because of this, Sophanna and her 16-year-old daughter are the breadwinners in their family. When not at work, Sophanna enjoys spending time with her kids and cooking. Ten years ago, Sophanna had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Sophanna experiences hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear discharge. It is difficult for her to hear at work and at home Sophanna traveled to our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) to receive treatment. On June 27th, she will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in her right ear, where ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Her family is able to contribute $100 to the surgery, and she needs only $926 to fully fund the procedure. Sophanna shared that she wants to stop feeling unwell and improve her hearing so that she can enjoy her time at home with her family.
