Sopheak is a 40-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Thom province with his wife. His extended family lives nearby, and their relatives visit often. His wife recently started working in a nearby clothing factory, and Sopheak works long days in the rice fields. In his free time, he likes playing volleyball with his friends in the village and reading the news. In October 2022, Sopheak crashed his motorbike while driving on a dark road with potholes. He went to a nearby clinic where doctors fixated a metal plate to repair a fracture in his left forearm. Now, the metalwork is causing pain, and he has limited function in his left arm. He is having difficulty working and doing everyday tasks. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On November 21st, Sopheak will undergo a fracture hardware removal procedure costing $304. This procedure will help him move his arm again. Sopheak shared,"I hope I can return to work and not have any pain."

Cheng is a 78-year-old retired rice farmer from Cambodia. Her husband passed away during the Khmer Rouge regime, and she lives with her elderly sister. Previously, they farmed rice to eat and sell at the local market until they could no longer manage the farm. They are now supported by relatives. Cheng works hard to maintain her home and enjoys going to the local pagoda in her free time to listen to the monks pray and cook meals for them. About three years ago, Cheng developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She can no longer walk by herself to the village pagoda during the day, as she cannot see well in bright light and needs help navigating the muddy streets during the monsoon season. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go out alone. When Cheng learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On August 1st, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Cheng shared, "I hope, after surgery, I can see better. I want to plant some vegetables around the house to help our diet and give them to the neighbors. I do not want to be a burden to my neighbors or my sister."

Mey Horng is a 19-month-old toddler from Cambodia who lives in Prey Veng province with his parents and older sister. Both of his parents work in a nearby clothing factory, and his sister attends first grade in the local elementary school. Mey Horng's favorite things are playing with toy cars, running around with his sister, and drinking milk. In December 2022, Mey Horng accidentally put his hand in a pot of boiling rice. During the healing process, burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around his burn and fusing three of his fingers together on his left hand. It is difficult for him to use his hand and his parents are worried he won't develop his fine motor skills. When Mey Horng's parents learned about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled two hours seeking treatment. On August 3rd, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve his hand function. Mey Horng's parents are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of the surgery and need help with the remaining $495 to fully fund the procedure. His mom shared, "I hope my son can use his hand again so I don't worry anymore."
