Donozio is a 59-year-old married father of four children. His elder daughter is a teacher, and his two sons and younger daughter are still studying. Donozio completed high school but could not proceed further with education due to a lack of school fees. His passion for education drives him to make sure he educates all his children so that they may get where he never reached. He farms with his wife, but they mostly grow just enough to sustain their family due to limited land. He lives in a three-roomed muddy semi-permanent house with his wife, children, and two orphans, children of his late brother. For the last two years ago, Donozio has had a giant incisional hernia. An incisional hernia is a type of hernia that occurs at or near the site of a previous surgical incision and is characterized by the protrusion of intestine, organ, or other tissue through the weakened abdominal muscle. A giant incisional hernia extends below the midpoint of the inner thigh in the standing position. Donozio was operated on in March 2020. A few months later, he noticed a swelling around the excision site; this has now developed into a giant incisional hernia. Donozio has to limit his eating because he always feels pain after eating-- abdominal pain and constipation. Fortunately, on September 5th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Donozio's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Donozio says, “I hope that when I am given your support, I will have my surgery done and get well again.”

Kop is a loving grandmother from Phnom Penh. She is 68 years old, married, and has six children - three sons and three daughters - and ten grandchildren. Her life now revolves around her grandchildren, who are her pride and joy. Kop used to sell fish at the market until, she shared, she became too old to do so. Her children also support her financially. In her free time, she loves listening to monks pray on the radio. About one year ago, Kop developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty cleaning the house or using the stove to cook due to her limited vision. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is unable to go out on her own. When Kop learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled there hoping for treatment. Fortunately, the doctors at CSC were able to quickly diagnose Kop's cataract and created a treatment plan. On July 13th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to help fund this procedure. Kop said, "After the surgery, I hope to see better and would like to sell Khmer cheese. That way, I can earn some money for myself and help my family."

Mar is a 56-year-old woman who lives with her family in a refugee camp located on the Thai-Burma border. They sell vegetables to earn income. During her free time, Mar enjoys reading religious books. Since late August, Mar has had an incisional hernia at the side of her previous caesarean section scar. The scar bulged from her abdomen, and was accompanied by significant pain and vomiting. This hernia causes pain and discomfort in her abdomen which worsens with physical activity. It hinders her ability to work to support her family. Fortunately, she will be able to undergo hernia repair surgery at Mae Sot General Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Mar's hernia repair surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on September 21 and, once completed, will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably. Mar said, “I just want to return to a normal life, free from worries brought on by this condition. After surgery, I will be able to work more and contribute more money to my family's income. Thank you.”
