Mech is a 15-year-old farmer from Cambodia. He lives at home on his family’s rice farm with his parents and younger sister. He enjoys Cambodian beef soup and playing volleyball with his friends.
Last September, Mech was helping one of his uncle’s at a construction site when he got an electric burn on his hand and wrist. His uncle rushed him to the local hospital and they suggested he come to Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for treatment. Mech is still in pain and unable to use his hand.
When Mech learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On January 9th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to relive his pain and help him use his hand again. Now, he needs help to fund this $495 procedure.
Mech shared, “I hope after the operation my hand and wrist can heal so I can work and play volleyball again.”

Mech underwent a burn contracture release surgery to relieve him of pain.
Mech had a complicated surgery to release the contractures, a nerve graft to restore the injured nerve, and a skin graft to cover damaged skin. He spent several days at the hospital to make sure the graft was successful. His mother received information for physiotherapy exercises; these will support him to learn to use his hand and strengthen his grip. When his hand is completely healed, and the nerve regenerated, he should be able to use it without pain. As he is still young, this is important for his future ability to generate income, and support a family of his own. He hopes to return to working on the family farm soon to financially support his parents.
Mech shared: “I saw all the staff work hard, and they are friendly and kind to patients. My pain is much less after surgery; I hope my left hand is healed soon and I can get back home and work for my family again.”
