Pisey is a 49-year-old husband and father from Cambodia. He lives with his wife and 15-year-old son. He has a mobile food business where he sells local spices around town. His wife works as a dishwasher in a local restaurant, and his son is in the ninth grade at the local school. Pisey has had diabetes for several years and has had trouble controlling his disease due to the lack of specialized health care available in his village. Several months ago, he stubbed his right toe and it became infected, which can occur in people with diabetes. As a result, his toe has become swollen and discolored and he is in pain. Pisey is unable to walk on his injured foot and cannot ride his motorbike to sell spices. Fortunately, Pisey's local clinic told him about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). He has been diagnosed with a gangrenous big toe by the surgeons at CSC. On September 8th, he will undergo an amputation of his toe, because gangrene can lead to serious complications if it is not treated quickly. Now, he needs help raising $479 to fund his procedure and care. Pisey shared, "I hope that I can walk again after surgery so I can return to selling my spices and supporting my family."

Htet is a 38-year-old mother of four from Burma. She works as a street vendor, selling vegetables while her husband is currently unemployed. Her eldest daughter works as a money changer. Her other children attend school. During her free time, Htet enjoys visiting with her neighbors. Since November 2022, Htet has been experiencing frequent abdominal pain that has progressively worsened over time. She has been diagnosed with a gallstone. Unfortunately, medications only help relieve her pain temporarily. Htet has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, Htet's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), Htet is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on September 19. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Htet's procedure and care. Htet said: "It is impossible for me to pay for the surgery. I was so delighted when I met you and knew that you would help me get surgery. I would like to say thank you so much for your great support."

Thim is a 68-year-old grandfather from Cambodia. He and his wife have four daughters and five grandchildren who all live nearby. His family all work as rice farmers; however, for the last two years, Thim has barely able to work due to his deteriorating vision. Now that he is home most of the time and unable to go out alone, he spends most of his time listening to the monks pray on the radio and watching the news. About two years ago, Thim developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him to lose his vision and have teary eyes. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go places on his own. When Thim learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On July 26th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Thim contributed $100 to his care. He shared, "I hope, after surgery, I can see well enough to go back to work and be able to plant vegetables around my house. I also want to help my daughters with my grandchildren and be able to read Buddhist books."
