Rem is a 47-year-old rice farmer from Kandal province in Cambodia. He is married, and has two sons and three daughters. Two of his daughters still live at home and attend public school. Rem's wife works in a local clothing factory. A month ago, Rem was involved in an accident while driving his motorbike. During the accident, Rem fractured his left femur. A local clinic asked him for $300 before they would do surgery, which he couldn't afford. He subsequently visited a Khmer traditional healer, who placed a bamboo splint, with the intention of stabilizing the bone, and to promote healing. However, Rem's fracture has become infected, and the bone has not healed properly. He cannot walk or farm his land and he is in constant pain. A friend in the village urged him to visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for further care. On August 1st, Rem will undergo a fracture repair procedure at CSC's care center. During the procedure, CSC doctors will also address the wound infection. Rem is able to contribute $100 to his care, and CSC is requesting $483 to cover the remaining costs. Rem said, "After surgery, I hope that I don’t have pain and can walk normally."

Sophanun is an active seven-year-old student in grade one. He and his family come from Battambang province, approximately six and a half hours away from the capital city. He has one younger sister, his father is a musician, and his mother stays home to care for the children. His favorite activities in school are singing Khmer songs and painting. He has recently learned to swim and really enjoys splashing in the water his father. His favorite foods are pork porridge, broccoli with meat, and fresh mango juice. For several years, Sophanun has been experiencing sore throats. During the night he often has trouble breathing. He gets frequent fevers and he doesn't sleep or feel well. Frequent illness causes him to lose his appetite and miss school. Sophanun was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Sophanun, which is scheduled to take place on September 26th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sophanun of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably and be able to attend school and do all the things he loves. His parents say, "We hope that after surgery, Sophanum will be comfortable drinking and eating and it will be easy for him to breathe."

Lopiro is a 15-year-old boy from Tanzania. His father is a livestock keeper who has two wives, which is common in their culture, and six children. Due to their remote location, Lopiro has been unable to attend school. He has been living with thoracic kyphoscoliosis and bilateral genu valgus for the past five years, which has severely impacted his mobility and prevented him from participating in community activities. Bilateral genu valgus means that his legs bow inwards. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, It is difficult for him to walk long distances and experiences considerable discomfort due to the abnormal gait he has developed. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) is requesting $880 to fund corrective surgery scheduled on June 27th. Treatment will hopefully restore Lopiro's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Lopiro says, "My legs have been causing me a lot of pain when I try to help at home. I hope this treatment will reduce the discomfort I feel when I walk."
