Alex is a small-scale farmer and a middle-aged, determined gentleman who undertook a four-hour journey to seek treatment here at our facility. He is a father to three children who are all studying. He loves grazing and taking care of animals, mostly goats and sheep. He wished to be a teacher, but after his own father and mother died, he was left with no one to pay for his school, so he dropped out at the fifth grade. However, being the firstborn, he decided to support his family and managed to fund the education of all his siblings. Two of his brothers are now teachers, and one is a nurse. He earns a living from growing crops like groundnuts and maize. His wife is also a farmer like him. Alex came in to the hospital with a swelling on his shoulders which he has had for over 12 years. It started small but kept increasing in size over time. He experiences a piercing pain and paralysis due to this mass. His quality of life has been affected too, as he is no longer able to work in the farm as he used to do before. He had never seen the doctor due to limited finances, but when symptoms became severe, he decided to come to visit a doctor. On May 23rd, surgeons will remove the mass to help him heal and get back to his day-to-day life. Now, Alex needs help to raise $137 to fund this procedure. Alex says, “I think the burden I have been having will be relieved once I am given your support and operated.”

Lang, a caring grandmother, is a 57-year-old retired rice farmer who resides with her daughter and two grandchildren. Her daughter earns $150 per month working in a factory making brand-name handbags, the only income to support the family. Lang helps look after the house and children while her daughter is at work, and in her free time, she visits her local pagoda. Around one year ago, Lang developed a cataract in her right eye, causing blurry vision, sensitivity to light, and discomfort. She cannot continue her work in the rice fields due to increased irritation from the sun. She has difficulty seeing things, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go places alone. When Lang learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 15th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Lang said: "I hope that after the surgery, my vision will improve, and I will be able to see better. I want to work in the rice field again and join for ceremonies, even in distant places."

Moeung is a 78-year-old, retired rice farmer from Prey Veng province in Cambodia. He has a daughter, two sons, and seven grandchildren. Currently, he resides with his wife and youngest daughter, who sells Khmer cakes. One of his favorite activities is attending religious ceremonies at the pagoda alongside his wife. About one year ago, Moeung developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him great discomfort and blurred vision. As a result of the cataract, Moeung is reluctant to go out on his own, and he is no longer able to read his favorite books. When Moeung learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours to seek treatment. On May 9th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in his right eye. After he has recovered, Moeung will be able to see clearly, go out on his own, and return to reading his books. Now, he needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Moeung said: "I hope after surgery I can see better, and join ceremonies with my wife."
