Sophy is a 41-year-old unmarried rice farmer. She lives in Takeo province with her elderly mother and father and two of her sisters. All of her siblings are rice farmers and help to support their parents. In the evenings, she likes to watch Khmer dramas on television. In June, she was in a motorbike accident and fractured her left forearm. She went to the provincial hospital for surgery and metalwork to heal the fracture, but the bone was still not recovered three months later. She had a second operation to change the metalwork several weeks ago but still cannot use her hand. A neighbor suggested she consult with Children's Surgical Center, where she was diagnosed with a Monteggia fracture, a proximal ulna fracture associated with dislocation of the radial head. Monteggia fractures can be challenging to diagnose and may lead to complications without proper management. It is difficult for her to use the hand, and she is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Center, can help. Sophy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $483. This procedure will allow her to use her hand again. Sophy said: "I hope I can use my hand like before and care for my parents."

Sr. Justine is a 52-year-old nun from Uganda. She does not have an income through her work and, therefore, needs assistance raising money for her surgery needs. Three years ago, she began to experience troubling symptoms, including persistent swelling on her neck. Additionally, she has difficulty speaking, which has limited her ability to communicate with others. She also becomes easily fatigued, even in minor activities, and experiences difficulty breathing at times. Sr. Justine's condition can lead to severe or fatal airway obstruction without treatment. Fortunately, Sr. Justine was able to visit our medical partner's care center. The doctors diagnosed her condition as a non-toxic goiter, which will require surgery to prevent her symptoms from worsening. On August 3rd, Sr. Justine will undergo a thyroidectomy, during which surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $252 to fund this procedure. Sr. Justine said, "I will be grateful when my surgery is considered, as it will improve the quality of my life."

Proscovia is a 29-year-old lady from Uganda. She had been employed in a factory for the past five years. However, when she became pregnant, she was dismissed from the payroll due to the factory's policy of not allowing employees with babies. This left her with no choice but to become the primary caregiver for her baby. Her husband works as a security assistant at a supermarket. Unfortunately, both lack the means to raise the necessary funds for the surgery that she now needs. For the past two years, she has been experiencing progressive neck swelling which is worsening. Proscovia has begun to experience troubling symptoms including speech difficulties, and is unable to talk well anymore. Even small activities cause her to become easily fatigued. Moreover, she sometimes struggles to breathe appropriately and experiences profuse sweating, especially at night. She was diagnosed with multinodular goiter. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Proscovia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 4th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money. Proscovia shared quietly, “I kindly seek consideration and support for my surgery. I will be very grateful and live a better quality of life as I look for another job for a living.”
