Mai Yas is fruit seller from Kampot province. She is a 60-year-old widow and has one son, three daughters, and five grandchildren. She lives with her youngest son who sells fruit at the local market. When she is not taking care of her grandchildren, she likes to go to the mosque. Three years ago, Mai Yas developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She is often lonely when she is the only person in the house and misses her independence. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. Upon discovering our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, Mai Yas embarked on a three-hour journey to seek treatment. On June 6th, a team of doctors will conduct a small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. Upon recuperation, her vision will be significantly improved. However, she currently requires financial support to cover the cost of this $253 procedure. She said: "I hope after surgery I can see better, go out by myself, and do housework well."

Magret is a 49-year-old small scale farmer from Uganda. She is a single mother of four children and lives in a two-room mud house. Her oldest child is 28 years old and recently received a diploma, but has not yet found a job. Her second born child unfortunately left school after primary school class seven due to a lack of school fees. Her thirdborn child is 21 years old and in secondary school class four, while her youngest is 17 years old and in secondary school class two. She pays for their school fees through her work as a farmer. Since August 2022, Magret has been experiencing lower abdominal pains. She visited a nearby health clinic where she was prescribed medication that helped for some time, but her symptoms returned earlier this year. She is in pain but cannot stop farming because she relies on it to care for her family. Magret has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, or a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Magret receive treatment. On April 14th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at AMH's care center. Once recovered, Magret will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Now, she needs help raising $319 to fund her procedure and care. Magret shared, "I believe that I will get well through surgery. I hope to continue with farming comfortably after surgery so that I may be able to continue taking good care of myself and my family."

Addah is a 50-year-old small-scale farmer from Uganda. She primarily farms beans and sorghum. She has visited many health centers over the years with her husband by her side, undergoing myomectomy and herniorrhaphy surgeries about six years ago, but she is still experiencing a troubling health condition. Four years ago, Addah developed a small swelling near her umbilical cord that has been increasing in size slightly over time. Recently, she also started feeling pain at the site of the mass and is concerned. Fortunately, Addah could travel to our medical partner’s care center for treatment. On May 5th, surgeons will remove the mass. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $145 to fund this procedure. Addah shared: “I hope to live a normal and comfortable life once again after surgery. I will continue with farming to be able to take good care of myself and my family.”
