Chhem is a 57-year-old father from Cambodia. Chhem, his wife, and their children live in Prey Veng province. They have four children who still live at home - one daughter and three sons. Chhem is a vegetable seller, his wife is a homemaker, and the children attend school and help their father at the local market. At home, he likes to grow a few extra vegetables to supplement their family's diet. Chhem has been suffering from throat pain and swallowing difficulties for several years. A local hospital noted that he had small tumors on his tonsils and uvula. The tonsils are on either side of the throat at the back of the mouth, and the uvula is the small, finger-shaped piece of tissue that hangs down from the back of the throat. The tumors were biopsied, but there was no clear diagnosis. He went back to the local clinic when the pain got worse but could not afford the care. For the past three months, Chhem's pain has been worse. He does not know if he has a disease but knows that he cannot swallow and is in pain. Chhem traveled to our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) to receive treatment. On August 11th, surgeons will remove the mass from his tonsils. Chhem is able to contribute towards the cost of the surgery and needs help to raise $273 to fully fund the procedure. Chhem said, "I hope I will receive the right diagnosis and know what the treatment plan is."

Francis is a small-scale farmer. He is a married man with five children, all of whom are currently attending school. His wife, like him, is engaged in small-scale farming, yielding produce primarily for their own consumption with a limited surplus available for sale. For eight years, Francis has had a left inguinal hernia. This condition has significantly restricted his movements and has also diminished his work performance. Presently, he leads a modest lifestyle, working hard to provide school fees for his children who are attending both primary and secondary school. If left untreated, his symptoms could persist and eventually lead to strangulation, which is a serious condition that could be fatal. Francis has never sought medical treatment or assessment at a hospital before, primarily due to financial constraints. Fortunately, on August 8th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Francis's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Francis says, "I will be grateful when my surgery is done with your support, as I have no alternative means to pay for such surgery myself."

Heng is a widowed, 63-year-old retired rice farmer from Kandal province in Cambodia. She has two daughters and six grandchildren. Sadly, her husband passed away 20 years ago due to stomach cancer. Today, Heng lives with her youngest daughter, who is a rice farmer. A few years ago, Heng developed a cataract in her left eye, which causes her to experience photophobia, tearing, and blurry vision. She feels isolated, as her impaired vision makes her reluctant to go out on her own and engage in social activities. Heng sought help from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On May 4th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After she has recovered, Heng will be able to see clearly again. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Heng shared: "I hope after surgery I can see better. I hope to go outside on my own, take my grandchildren to school, and help my daughter."
