Chhai Lim is a 72-year-old rice farmer from Kompong Chhnang province in Cambodia. He is married and has three daughters, five sons, and eleven grandchildren. Chhai Lim likes to say that while he might be old chronologically, his body is still strong, and he enjoys going to work every day in the rice field with one of his sons. When at home, he likes listening to the news on the radio and spending time with his family. One year ago, Chhai Lim developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision, sensitivity to light, and tearing. The impact on his vision has made it difficult for Chhai Lim to continue to go to the rice fields or elsewhere on his own. Chhai Lim learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and he traveled for four and a half hours to seek treatment. On March 20th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now he needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Chhai Lim said: "I hope after surgery my eye can see better and I can go back to farming rice."

Douby is a 17 year old student, living with his Godmother and her family in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Douby enjoys going to school, and aspires to attain a PhD in agronomy, and to become a professor. As a result of rheumatic fever that he suffered as a child, Douby has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. Two of his four heart valves were severely damaged by the rheumatic fever, and his heart cannot adequately pump blood through his body, leaving him sick and short of breath. The care Douby needs is not available in Haiti so he urgently will fly to the United States to receive treatment on February 28th at Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital. He will undergo emergency cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will attempt to repair both damaged valves; if the valves cannot be repaired, they will be removed, and artificial valves will be implanted in their place. While another organization, Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital, is contributing $20,000.00 to help pay for Douby's surgery, our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is seeking $1,500 to cover the costs for the surgery prep and transport support, including lab tests; medicines, and follow up appointments. The money will alsosupport the passport and travel expenses for the social workers that will accompany Douby and his family to the U.S. Douby was able to share: "I am looking forward to being stronger and healthier once my heart can be repaired!"

Nim is a 65-year-old retired rice farmer. She is a widow with three sons, four daughters, and 12 grandchildren, living in Cambodia. She currently stays with her youngest daughter, who helps support them by working in a nearby garment factory. Five months ago Nim developed a cataract in her right eye. As the cataract has continued to grow, Nim's vision has become increasingly impaired, making her reluctant to go out on her own, and causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Nim sought help from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. Now, she is scheduled for cataract surgery on January 10th, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. During the surgery, doctors will remove the cataract, and implant an intraocular lens in Nim's eye. Now she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Nim said: "I hope after surgery my eye can see better. I want to easily go out to far away places - and I want to go by myself, and I want to take care of my grandchildren."
