Sochan is a 41-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He lives just outside the capital of Phnom Penh with his wife, daughter, and son. His wife is also a rice farmer, and his daughter recently got a job in a garment factory. Their son is still in school and about to complete 9th grade. In his downtime, Sochan likes to go to the pagoda to pray. In October 2022, Sochan was walking down the street when he was hit in the back of the head by a robber and fell. His phone and cash were stolen. He sustained some injuries from the fall, including a clavicle fracture. His wife took him to a nearby provincial hospital where surgeons fixated hardware to heal the clavicle fracture. Sochan and his wife spent their savings to pay for the procedure. Now, the hardware is no longer serving a purpose and causes him Sochan pain and discomfort in his right shoulder and arm. He is unable to work and worries about the future of his family. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On June 7th, Sochan will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $304. This procedure will improve his range of motion and eliminate pain. Sochan contributed $100 to his care. He shared, "I don't want to be in pain anymore, and I want to work to support my family."

Hellen is a nine-year-old girl who is approaching grade one. She is one of nine siblings, three of whom share the same congenital condition of clubfoot. Both of her parents are farmers. They cultivate maize and millet for food and sell the surplus to earn money for other expenses. Unfortunately, Hellen’s father, who is advancing in age and has clubfoot, cannot work extended hours. Therefore, his mother toils diligently on the farm to ensure they yield sufficient harvests. Hellen has clubfoot on her left foot and, fortunately, Hellen's family visited our medical partner's care center, the Plaster House NGO. There, the team began clubfoot treatment on October 6th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $935 to fund Hellen's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will use night casts to aid in her full recovery and later be able to walk comfortably. She did not receive treatment as a baby because of her parents' lack of knowledge about the condition and financial barriers. However, one day, a glimmer of hope emerged when Hellen’s father crossed paths with a young boy who had once faced a similar challenge but had now fully recovered. Filled with renewed hope, he inquired about how this transformation had occurred. The boy’s story revealed the existence of our medical partner's care center to Hellen’s father. Filled with optimism, he hurried home and shared this life-altering discovery with his wife. Together, they decided to bring their precious daughter and three of her siblings to The Plaster House. Hellen’s mother says: “I am glad there is a chance for my daughter to get treatment, I hope she doesn't have to live with this disability for the rest of her life.”

Aye is a 44-year-old teacher from Burma. She resides along with her husband, aunt, and niece. She works as a school teacher while her husband runs a betel nut shop. Her aunt is a homemaker and her niece goes to school. During her free time, Aye enjoys watching TV and reading. Aye has a heart condition that requires replacement of two heart valves (aortic and mitral) and repair of the tricuspid valve. These valves control the blood flow between the chambers of the heart and are necessary to prevent long term damage to the heart and lungs. For the past 14 years, Aye has suffered from her heart condition. Since the beginning of 2023, her symptoms worsened. Aye has been experiencing occasional chest pain and difficulty breathing which worsens with physical activities. She also has a decreased appetite, weight loss, and difficulty sleeping at night. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 for this complex surgery. The treatment is scheduled to take place at Pun Hlaing Hospital on November 23rd and, once completed, will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and have a more active and healthy life ahead. Aye said: "I have been ill and taking medication for more than 10 years already. I feel sad and depressed living with this health problem. I want to get treated and live healthy like other people, but I cannot afford to pay for surgery. Since I learning that BCMF and donors will help me pay for my surgery, I am so excited to undergo surgery and become healthy again. I never thought that I would have the opportunity to receive a surgery since I cannot effort to pay for it myself. I am really grateful for your help and I am thankful to all the donors who will help pay for my treatment.
