Joseph is a two-month-old baby and the only child in his family. His mother used to work in a salon but stopped shortly before she gave birth to Joseph, while his father is a cook in a local hotel. The family shared that they do not have national health insurance and need assistance with the cost of their son’s surgery.
Joseph has had a right inguinal hernia since birth. His mother noticed some swelling within the first week of his birth and took him to the hospital. Doctors determined the swelling was normal and would reduce over time; however, when there was no change so Joseph’s mother brought him back to the hospital. Upon further review, the doctors diagnosed the condition as a hernia and referred Joseph to the care center of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), for treatment.
On January 5th, Joseph will undergo repair surgery at AMH’s care center. Upon recovery, he will be able to live more comfortably and grow up healthy. AMH is requesting $585 to fund Joseph’s surgery.
Joseph’s mother shared, “Whenever my child cries of pain, I’m never at peace with myself, but I know that all will be well.”
