Sochhin is a 22-year-old farmer who lives with his grandparents, sister and brother in Banteay Meanchey province, where his family grows rice. Rice cultivation has been a tradition in Cambodia for thousands of years, and Sochhin's family has farmed the same land for generations. In his free time and before his injury, he liked playing football and volleyball with his friends. However in 2020, Sochhin was in a motorcycle collision, and fractured his left femur. He went to the local provincial hospital, where doctors performed an open reduction-internal fixation of hardware, to heal his fracture. Now the fracture has healed, and the presence of the hardware is causing Sochhin discomfort and pain, irritating the surrounding soft tissues and tendons. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 14th, Sochhin will undergo a hardware removal procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, which will cost $304. Socchin needs your help to fund this procedure, which will greatly improve the quality of his life. Sochhin said: "After surgery, I hope I won't worry about my leg anymore and I can be strong again."

Meet Salmin, an adored newborn baby from Tanzania and the youngest in his family of four children. His father is a soldier and must spend most of his time away from home, and his mother is a teacher. Salmin was born with clubfoot on his right foot and hyperextension on his left knee. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape, which causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Salmin’s parents want to ensure he receives the best care to grow up to live a healthy and fulfilling life. When they learned about our medical partner’s care center, they brought him in for assessment and treatment. Salmin will first receive non-surgical care that involves gentle manipulation and casting of his right foot. Over the course of several weeks, Salmin’s foot angle will gradually improve; then, he will undergo tenotomy surgery on May 16th. After treatment, Salmin will be able to walk easily as he grows and reaches the walking stage. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $935 to fund Salmin’s surgery. Salmin’s mother said: “I have been constantly worried since I got news of my son’s condition. I am hopeful that with the right treatment, he will be fine.”

In, who is 73 years old, is a widowed, retired rice farmer, living alone in Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. Her two sons live nearby, and help support In with their income from working in a rice mill. Her daughter also lives nearby, and helps In with household chores. In's greatest joy is her four grandchildren, for whom she loves to cook. Around ten years ago, In developed a pterygium in her right eye, causing her constant itchiness, redness, and watery eyes. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is damaged due to excessive exposure to the sun, causing cells to grow abnormally over the pupil, resulting in impaired vision. When In learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. In needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the surface of the cornea, which will be replaced with a conjunctival graft, to prevent a recurrence. The procedure, which will cost $225, is scheduled for July 3rd at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. Children's Surgical Centre is requesting your help to cover the costs of In's medications, supplies, and inpatient medical care for two days.
