Sopheap is a 40-year-old rice farmer and single mother of two from Cambodia. She lives in Pursat province with her mother and two children, who are ages thirteen and eight. Sopheap enjoys spending time with her kids and listening to traditional Cambodian music.
In September 2023, Sopheap was in a motorbike accident and fractured her tibia. Since then she has been treated by a traditional healer in her village. As the fracture has not healed, it is difficult for her to walk and she is in chronic pain. She visited our care center for treatment. On November 6th, Sopheap will undergo a fracture repair procedure to eliminate her pain and help her walk easily again. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), is requesting $483 to fund this procedure. Sopheap contributed $100 to her care.
Sopheap said, “I hope I can fix my leg so I can go back to work and support my children.”

Sopheap underwent fracture repair surgery.
Sopheap traveled for four and a half hours on rough roads in order to have her fractured tibia repaired. Her operation went smoothly. Her doctors inserted metal plates so that Sopheap’s bones would remain in a position to heal. She spent several days in the hospital, and met with the physiotherapy team to learn exercises to help her with her rehabilitation. Although it may take up to two months for her to heal completely, she is happy to have this care, and hopes to be able to bear weight on her leg soon.
Sopheap shared: “Now my life can improve because I can farm and sell rice to pay for my children to stay in school.”
