Lu lives with her family in a refugee camp in the border area of Thailand. She works as a community health worker and enjoys cooking, watching TV, and playing with children in her free time. Over three years ago, Lu started to experience pain in her back and lower abdomen, accompanied by blood in her urine. She felt tired and had a low appetite. She was able to visit Chiang Mai Hospital and was diagnosed with kidney stones. Unfortunately, Lu's treatment was delayed due to a Covid outbreak in the camp. Additionally, she was unable to afford the procedure she needs. Fortunately, Lu was able to meet our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF). Lu's doctor wants to perform percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), an operation to remove her kidney stones. Lu is scheduled to receive her operation on June 8th. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to help fund this procedure so Lu can return to being pain free in life. Lu said, "I love my job working as a community health worker in the refugee camp. But I cannot continue to work with this condition. Thank you BCMF and all of the donors for helping me."

Soktheang is a six-year-old preschooler. He and his family live in Kampong Speu province, about four hours away from the capital of Phnom Penh. His father is a construction worker, and his mother works in a local clothes factory. He has one older brother who is a student. Soktheng likes to learn about Khmer history and listen to stories told by the teachers. At home, he loves to eat fried eggs and drink orange juice, and he tries very hard to keep up with his older brother. About three days ago, Soktheng's mother noticed him pulling at his ear and not sleeping well. She took him to the local health center, where they saw a small foreign object in his ear. Due to his agitation, they were unable to retrieve it. He complained of pain and hearing loss and was very unhappy. If the object stays in his ear, it could lead to infection and long-term hearing loss. Soktheang and his mother traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On November 17, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) surgeons will do a procedure to remove the object under anesthesia. Now, Soktheang's family needs help to raise $273 to fund this procedure. His mother said: "I hope my son will not have pain anymore. I am worried Soktheang will not hear from that ear."

Daniel is a handsome 4-year-old boy. He is the third born in a family of three children. His father does not work because he has been sick, while the mother is a hawker of fruits, and her income is the sole income to sustain their family. Daniel is in pre-school and they hope he can feel better soon. Daniel’s mother has been struggling with him for three years, taking him to different hospitals without much relief. He has been having chronic tonsillitis and adenoiditis with symptoms like pain, fever, difficulty breathing and eating, sometimes coughing and vomiting with swollen tonsils. This has even affected his schooling. The mother decided to bring him to Nazareth Hospital where the Ear Nose Throat Surgeon ordered an Adenotonsillectomy to remove the tonsils and adenoids. Due to the socio-economic status of Daniel's family, they cannot meet the cost of this critical treatment. If not treated, Daniel will continue to have the pains and other symptoms and may develop complications like tonsillar abscess, middle ear infection, or rheumatic fever. “I am the sole breadwinner from my little income. At the same time, I feel bad to see my child suffering. I plead for help so that he can be treated and be well to grow up normally,” shared Daniel's mother.
