Hamith is a ten-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives with his family in Kandal province where his father is a journalist and his mother is a factory worker. He has one sister and one brother. At school, he is in the fourth grade, where his favorite subjects are Khmer, mathematics, social science, and English. Although he loves academics, Hamith aspires to be a footballer when he grows up. When he was very young, Hamith developed an ear infection. This infection caused his right ear's tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, to perforate. As a result, Hamith experiences frequent ear discharge, pain, tinnitus, and progressive hearing loss. He cannot communicate clearly with those around him and struggles to hear his teacher in class. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is seeking $487 to fund a myringoplasty for Hamith, which will repair the perforation in his eardrum. The procedure is scheduled for April 25th at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. Once he has recovered, Hamith's life will no longer be disrupted by the unpleasant symptoms he has been living with. Hamith's mother said: "We hope that after surgery, Hamith will be healthy, his hearing will be better, and he can return to school."

Denis is a 22-year-old motorbike driver - the third born in a family of six. His parents separated and now he lives with his mother. He shared that he dropped out of school in grade seven because his parents were not in a position to provide for all of them. His other siblings have been adopted by family members. Denis is single and is hoping to marry when he has a stable income. Currently, he is employed riding a motorbike as a taxi and his daily income is not always guaranteed. Denis needs to undergo surgery so that he can continue doing his normal activities and also reach his desired life of having a stable income and a family. When Denis visiting our medical partner's hospital, he was walking with a crutch and could not put any weight on his left leg. He had an x-ray film that showed a complete fracture of his left femur. His condition causes him pain and he is unable to continue with his work. Denis' family is not in a position to pay the medical fees, and his treatment will be a big financial burden to them. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On April 13, Denis will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. Denis needs to undergo surgery so that he can continue doing his normal activities and also reach his desired life of having a stable income and a family. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1145 to fund this procedure. Denis says, "It has been hard to carry out my normal duties. I really look forward to getting well so that I can fully depend on myself as before.”

Tey is a 15-year-old from Cambodia and the middle child in his family, with an older brother and a younger sister. His parents are rice farmers. Tey enjoys school, especially P.E. class, and dreams of being a professional soccer player one day! In March, Tey was riding on the back of his family's motorbike when they had to swerve to avoid a large animal in the road. The motorbike fell on its side and caused Tey to fracture his left wrist. For the last two weeks, he has been treated by a traditional Cambodian healer. Tey's family brought him to our medical partner's care center for review. On March 29th, he will undergo a fracture repair procedure that will allow him to move his hand and arm easily again. Tey is currently in pain and has limited use of his hand. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), requests $485 to fund Tey's surgery. His family contributed $100 to his care. Tey shared: "I hope surgery can help fix my hand, and I can do P.E. at school."
