San is a 26-year-old factory worker who lives with his wife and five-year-old daughter in Kandal province in Cambodia. His wife is employed at the same factory where San works. In March 2023, San was the victim of an attempted robbery, during which the left side of his neck was injured. He was treated at a local hospital, where surgeons attempted to do a nerve transfer. However, the doctors told San that his condition would require further investigation and treatment. San was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, where he was diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in a loss of function and sensation. Currently, San can't move his arm and his left hand is paralyzed. He also experiences a great deal of pain and is unable to work or care for himself. With assistance from the Children's Surgical Centre, San is now scheduled to undergo brachial plexus repair surgery on May 9th at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, the only facility in the country where this surgery is available. After he has recovered, San hopes to be able to use his arm and hand again. Children's Surgical Centre is requesting $709 to fund this procedure. San said: "I'm hoping to regain movement in my arm and to get back to work."

Mary, who is 53 years old, is a small-scale farmer, living in the Rukungiri district in Uganda. Mary and her husband - who have been married for 22 years - have five children. Two of their sons are currently studying; their elder daughter is married and works as a farmer, while the rest of their children are still in school. When she was a child, Mary had ambitions to become a teacher. However, due to a lack of school fees, she only completed grade six, and never reached her goal. Instead, she farms to earn a living, while her husband works as a carpenter. Despite all their hard work, their income is limited. Since January of this year, Mary has been experiencing bleeding, along with severe backaches, lower abdominal pain, and intermittent headaches. She has visited several hospitals where she was treated, but her condition remains unresolved. She was recently diagnosed with a premalignant cervical lesion, and advised to undergo a hysterectomy. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Mary's surgery. On April 4th, she will be operated on at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale. Once she has recovered, Mary will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. With a bright hopeful smile, Mary says: “I’ve had a lot of pain, but I have hope that when I am given your support, I will be able to attain my surgery and hope to get well.”

Samorn is a 79-year-old nun living in a rural village in Kandal province, Cambodia. Sadly, her husband passed away 20 years ago and Samorn has lived and worked in a pagoda ever since. She enjoys cooking and meditation. One year ago, Samorn developed a cataract in her left eye, which causes her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Because she has difficulty seeing clearly, she is no longer confident about going places on her own. When Samorn learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours to seek treatment. On May 8th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After she has recovered, Samorn will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Samorn shared: "I hope I can see more clearly and do more at the pagoda and visit the temples further away some time."
