Sopheaktra is a 19-year-old man from Cambodia. He lives with his grandmother and younger sister in Kampong Cham province. He spends his time helping his grandmother around the house or drinking coffee with his friends. When he was five years old, his left foot was burned by a fire. His family did not seek any help for him at that time. Burn scar contractures have developed on his foot, tightening the skin around his burn. As a result, it is difficult for him to wear shoes or walk as he is in pain. When Sopheaktra learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 12th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him walk again comfortably. He would like to find a construction job to provide financial assistance to his grandmother. Now, he needs help to fund this $495 procedure. He shared: "After surgery, I hope that I have no pain and can wear shoes."

Claudy is an 11 month old child from Haiti. He is the youngest child in his family. He lives with his mother, father, brother and sister and is very playful. Claudy has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Claudy has been experiencing Increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Claudy will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for Claudy at Hospital Bernard Mevs that will treat his hydrocephalus. This is the only site in the country where this care is currently available and the procedure is scheduled to take place on July 4th. This critical treatment will drain the excess fluid from Claudy's brain to reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Claudy will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. The family is hoping that the surgery will allow him to grow and enjoy a healthy life without further challenges.

Regina is a 42-year-old mother of four from Burma. She is a hardworking homemaker. During her free time, she enjoys walking around the neighborhood. Regina has been diagnosed with a gallbladder condition, resulting back and abdominal pain, yellowing of her skin, and other worrisome symptoms. The medications the doctors have provided her have not worked. If left untreated, Regina's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. She has therefore been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), Regina is scheduled to undergo her cholecystectomy on May 22nd. BCMF is requesting $1,487 to cover the total cost of Regina's procedure and care. Regina said “I am glad to receive help from BCMF for my operation. I am also very thankful to you for helping patients who can't afford surgery. I hope my operation goes well.”
