Pork is a 92-year-old retired rice farmer from Cambodia. He is married and has one son, two daughters, and ten grandchildren. He lives with his elderly wife and his youngest daughter, who is a rice farmer and financially supports them. At home, he likes listening to Buddhist prayers on the radio. Three years ago, Pork developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Pork describes it as if there is a film covering his eye. This condition makes it difficult to see any small details clearly, and he is unable to help around the house, which causes him sadness as he considers it part of his responsibility to help as the head of his family. Overall, Pork has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he cannot go out on his own. When Pork learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On November 1st, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Pork said: "I hope, after surgery, both eyes can see better. I hope to recognize relatives, help my wife in the house, and eat and drink well."

Phoeun is a loving grandmother and retired rice farmer. Sadly, her husband passed away three years ago. Since then, Phoeun has been living with her oldest daughter in Kandal province, and helps care for her grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with family and volunterring at her local temple. Around four years ago, Phoeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. When Phoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 20th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly again and reclaim more independence in life. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She shared: "I hope I can see faces more clearly and feel comfortable going to the pagoda by myself."

Suy is a 56 year-old rice farmer who lives in Kampong Speu province with his wife and youngest son. His other two sons live nearby, and also work as rice farmers. In his free time, Suy enjoys gardening - including growing fruits and vegetables - and looking after his chicken coop at home. Fifteen years ago, Suy had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind his ear drum. As a result, Suy experiences ear discharge, pain, and hearing loss. He has tried various medications and natural remedies, but nothing has worked. Suy sought help from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On May 17th, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure on his right ear, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Children's Surgical Centre is requesting $926 to cover the cost of the procedure, medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Suy shared: "I hope I can solve this problem in my ear so I can hear better and stop worrying all the time."
