Daw Khin is a widow who lives with her three children in Yangon, Burma. She now stays at home and her elder son is often sick and unable to work. Her younger son is a day laborer, and her youngest daughter is a salesperson. The income they earn is only enough for daily expenses, and there is no extra money for basic healthcare. In March, Daw Khin began experiencing blurry vision and difficulty seeing clearly with her left eye. Despite the absence of pain or discharge from both eyes, she could not seek medical attention due to financial constraints. As her vision deteriorated, she acquired some funds from her children and visited an ophthalmologist at KBC Hospital on June 5th. The doctor diagnosed her with glaucoma in both eyes and emphasized the urgent need for eye surgery in her left eye to prevent blindness. Fortunately, Daw Khin contacted a monk from Kyaung Gyi Parahita Monastery in Yangon, who referred her to the Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF). Now, Daw Khin seeks assistance to raise the required $769 for the procedure, significantly improving her quality of life and restoring her confidence. Currently, she cannot read books, watch TV, or walk alone as she cannot see her surroundings. She and her family are apprehensive about her eye condition and are afraid of her becoming blind and depressed about not having enough money for further treatment. Daw Khin said, "I am thankful for the support from donors and BCMF for my eye operation's cost. If there is no BCMF and donors, I will be blinded, and there is no hope for me to regain my vision. I can't thank you enough for helping me, and I pray the organization will be more successful in the future."

Pheareak is a 17-year-old from Cambodia who lives with his parents, older sister, and younger brother. His parents are rice farmers, and his older sister works as a seamstress in a clothes factory. Pheareak stopped studying after grade six to help his family in the ancestral rice paddies. His favorite activities include playing football and swimming with his friends as well as eating his mother's amazing fried chicken. Four months ago, Pheareak was in a motorbike collision on his way home. He sustained a blow to his right shoulder on the concrete road and was knocked unconscious. He was transported to a local hospital, where he received emergency care. As the doctors were unable to diagnose his shoulder injury, they suggested he visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for review. The doctors at CSC diagnosed his condition as a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. Pheareak cannot move his arm and experiences pain, numbness, and lack of muscle control. Pheareak traveled to CSC's care center to receive treatment, as this is the only center in the country where this treatment is available. On July 25th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he hopes to use his arm again. CSC is requesting $709 to fund this procedure. Pheareak contributed $100 to his care. Pheareak said: "I hope this surgery will help me to use my arm again. I would like to work in a factory or on the farm to support my family."

Seangkun is a 51-year-old mother who lives in Prey Veng province with her husband. Her daughter and grandson live nearby and visit often. Seangkun, her husband, daughter, and son-in-law all work as farmers in the rice paddies. When she's not in the fields, she occasionally sells rice in the local village market. In her free time, she likes spending time with her grandson and cooking Cambodian soups. In 2020, Seangkun fell near her house and fractured her right forearm. She went to a small clinic near her village and doctors implanted metal hardware to heal the fracture. Now, the bone is united, but the metalwork is causing pain and limiting the function in her arm. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) can help. On July 7th, Seangkun will undergo a hardware removal procedure. She is able to contribute $100 to her care and needs only $304 to fully fund the procedure. This care will help her use her arm easily again and eliminate pain. Seangkun shared, "I hope I can go home with no pain in my arm. I want to be able to use my arm for work and taking care of my family."
