Oeung is a 74-year-old retired farmer. She has two sons, three daughters, and six grandchildren. She lives in Kandal province with her elderly husband and her youngest daughter, who works in a garment factory. Oeung and her husband grew rice for many years and have now set into retirement, supported by their children. They like to listen to the radio when the monks pray and go to the pagoda with other retired villagers.
Two years ago, Oeung developed a cataract in her right eye. She is unable to travel to her favorite pagoda by herself and feels badly that she needs more help to perform her daily activities such as cooking and cleaning.
When Oeung learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On October 17th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
She shared: “I hope to recognize people easily and take better care of myself after surgery.”
