Chin is a 60-year-old retired fish seller from Kandal province in Cambodia. She has one son and one daughter. Sadly, her husband passed away 10 years ago in a motorbike accident. Chin lives with her youngest daughter, who is a garment factory worker. She enjoys watching Cambodian dramas on TV and spending time with her daughter. About two years ago, Chin developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her light sensitivity, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, thus is unable to travel on her own. When Chin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 9th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She said, "I hope after surgery my eye can see better and I don't have to worry anymore when I go places on my own."

Janet is a 6-year-old girl from Tanzania. She is a bright-eyed, curious girl living in a remote village called Manyus, Tanzania. She is the second youngest of five children, raised by her hardworking parents, who do everything possible to provide for their family. Her father is a farmer and cattle breeder; however, due to the fluctuating prices of crops and cows, he struggles to make enough money to provide for his family. From a young age, Janet's legs started bowing, making it difficult to walk, run, or play like other children her age. Janet was able to reach our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), where she was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. Her legs bow outward so that her knees do not touch. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, often stemming from contaminated drinking water. AMH is requesting $880 to fund corrective surgery for Janet. The procedure is scheduled to take place on April 17th. Treatment will hopefully restore Janet's mobility, allow her to participate in various activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Janet’s mother says, “We are concerned about her future. I hope my daughter will be better after this treatment.”

Masiaya is a two year old baby boy. He was the fifth child born to his mother, who is a second wife to her husband. The family resides in a remote area called Oloirobi, located within the Ngorongoro area. They are members of the Maasai community, and Masiaya's father is a cattle breeder. While playing with his brother, Masiaya was accidentally pushed, and he fell into an open fire. When Masiaya was rescued, he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, despite treatment, the wound on his head has never healed properly. He has been treated at different hospitals, but he still has a wound on his head. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is here to help. On February 27th, surgeons at Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre will perform burn contracture release surgery to help Masiaya heal completely, and to reduce the risk of infection. Now his family needs your help to fund this $874 procedure. Masiaya’s mother says: “I am constantly worried about my son’s health because the head is such a sensitive part of the body.”
