Paw is 52-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her husband, two daughters and son-in-law in a refugee camp. She and her husband are homemakers, while her eldest daughter and son-in-law are teachers. Her youngest daughter is a student. She has cataracts and she has blurred vision in both of her eyes. Because of her poor vision, she has difficulty walking around the refugee camp and she has had to stop weaving and selling traditional Karen clothes from her home-region of Burma. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund lens replacement surgery for Paw. On December 29th, doctors will perform a lens replacement, during which they will remove Paw's natural lenses and replace them with an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure. "I hope that my treatment will be successful. I want to be able to see well. I want to continue weaving clothes in the future, and I want to live with my family for the rest of my life,” she said.

Vanna is a 24-year-old farmer who has been married for 2 years and has one daughter and one son. She stays home to care for the children, and her husband drives a motor taxi. In her free time, she grows plants outside her house and likes to do embroidery. One year ago, she had an ear infection that caused pain and discharge from her right ear. She tried medicine from a local pharmacy but the symptoms persisted. The infection caused the tympanic membrane (ear drum) in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Vanna experiences tinnitus, ear pain, and hearing loss. She cannot communicate clearly with others, does not sleep well, and often has headaches. Vanna traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On November 21st, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $487 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Vanna shared: "I hope my ear will be healthy and my hearing will improve."

Chamroeun is a 36-year-old father of two, living with his wife and children near the Mekong River, in the Prey Veng province of Cambodia. Chamroeun used to work as a tuk-tuk driver, while his wife is a rainy day rice farmer. They also own several cows, from which they get fresh milk. Chamroeun was hit by a car in September while crossing a road near his home. His right arm and right clavicle were fractured, and he lost his lower left leg, as a result of the accident. Because he had no money, he was transferred from a local private clinic to a government hospital, where he spent several weeks recovering. His arm and clavicle were repaired, but the stump below his knee has still not healed fully. The skin around the stump is open, and Chamroeun is in chronic pain, and is unable to walk. He and his family have also found it difficult emotionally to adjust to Chamroeun losing part of his leg. When Chamroeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he sought their help. Now, on October 21st, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a skin graft procedure to help his leg heal, and to facilitate long-term rehabilitation. Chamroeun needs your help to fund this $487 procedure. Chamrouen shared: "After surgery, I hope my left leg and skin will heal soon. After the skin is good, I can get a prosthesis to walk without crutches and return to work to support my family again."

Rin is a 43-year-old mother of one. She is a construction worker and divorced from her husband. She has one son who lives with her. In her free time, she likes to listen to Khmer songs and do things around the house. Earlier this month, she was working on a roof near a high-voltage wire and suffered multiple electrical burns on her hands, feet, and head. She was taken to a referral hospital, but only received minimal dressing for her burns. The tissue damage is extensive, and she is in pain and unable to use her hands. When Rin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 15th, surgeons at CSC will perform a skin graft surgery to to help regenerate the damaged skin. Now, she needs help to fund this $805 procedure. Rin is hopeful that after surgery her hands will be better and she will be able to work again.

Jonah is a 55-year-old farmer from Tanzania. She is a mother to ten children, five of whom are still in school and the other five of whom are currently working. Jonah runs a small green grocery shop along the road where she sells vegetables to support her family. Her husband also works to support their family by practicing small-scale farming. However, her husband shares that farm production has gone down due to unpredictable seasons, which sometimes leave them with nothing to feed their family. For three years, Jonah has been experiencing lower abdominal pain, abnormal discharge, and painful bleeding. She initially attempted to treat her symptoms with painkillers and antibiotics, but this became too expensive, so she began using local herbs instead. After seeing no change, she sought medical care and was diagnosed with multiple uterine myomas and a premalignant cervical lesion, meaning she has cells in her cervix that have the potential to develop into cervical cancer. She now must undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Jonah's surgery. On August 11th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Jonah will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Jonah says, “I surely know that I will get better and I will be relieved from pain after my operation.”

Naw Eh is a 32-year-old woman who lives with her parents, her husband, and her children in a refugee camp. She supports her family by caring for her children and managing their home. Her husband is currently unemployed. Three of her children are enrolled in primary school, but her fourth child is too young to attend. During her free time, Naw Eh enjoys sewing clothes. Naw Eh is currently expecting a new baby and her doctors recommend that she undergoes a caesarean section to deliver her child because she is already 40 weeks pregnant and her baby is still in the wrong position, laying horizontally instead of vertically. With a C-section, doctors will be able to ensure the safety of both Naw Eh and her baby during the delivery. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Naw Eh undergo a C-Section on July 7th. This procedure will cost $1,500, and Naw Eh's family needs your support to help fund her care. Naw Eh shares, “In the future, I will search for a job in the refugee camp, and I will also take good care of my children.”

Htun is a four year old boy living with 12 other children and a pastor and his wife who are helping to raise them in Tak Province, Thailand. Htun enjoys riding bicycles, watching cartoons, and playing with action figures. Towards the beginning of April, Htun began experiencing discomfort while walking and when he was sitting down. According to his guardian, whenever Htun begins to feel pain, he will point to where the pain is coming from and cry. Htun has been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, which will need to be treated with surgery. Fortunately, he was brought to our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, and he is now scheduled for hernia repair surgery on May 31st, at Mae Sot General Hospital. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Htun's hernia repair surgery, after which Htun will be able to live a full and healthy life ahead. "I want to support him as if he were my own child, and I want him to feel like we are his family," shared the pastor.

Neat is a 41-year old-construction worker, who is married and has a nine-year-old daughter who is in 1st grade. Neat's wife is also a construction worker, and when Neat has free time, he repairs motorcycles to earn more money. In 2021, Neat developed an ear infection, which caused the ear drum in his right ear to perforate. As a result, Neat now experiences ear pain, hearing loss, tinnitus, discharge, and headaches, and he cannot hear clearly when he is at work. Neat traveled to Children's Surgical Centre hoping to receive treatment. On May 5th, he will undergo a procedure on his right ear, during which surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $487 to fund this procedure. This will cover medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Neat says: "I hope my ear heals so the infection stops and I can hear well again."

Porla is a 57-year-old farmer who is married and has two sons and two daughters. Porla's children are now married and he has several grandchildren. Porla enjoys playing with his grandchildren, drinking tea with his friends, and listening to the radio. Porla's right foot is has become severely infected from an insect bite. His foot is swollen and red making it difficult for him to walk without pain. When Porla learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled there hoping for treatment. On April 20th, surgeons will perform a skin graft procedure to help him walk easily again. CSC is helping Porla raise $487 to fund this procedure. Porla says, "I hope after surgery I heal quickly and am able to return to work and be free of pain."

Sudes is an adorable baby boy who loves to smile and play with his mother and his older brother. Sudes is a happy child, especially when he is taking a bath. Sudes is the youngest child with one brother five years older. Sude and his brother are being raised by their single mother with limited support from his father. He works as a security guard in a government building, occasionally sending financial support to Sudes's mother. Sudes was born with a congenital malformation that causes an abnormally functioning segment of the bowel. Sudes requires corrective surgery so that he can grow to be a healthy boy. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare is helping Sudes's mother raise $1,500 to fund this life altering surgery. Sudes's mother shared, "When I knew about his condition, I was so surprised and confused. I was scared and worried. Whenever I think about it I cry and cry.”

Rachhan is a 12-year-old student with five siblings. His parents are construction workers in their province. Rachhan enjoys playing football and riding bikes with his friends. Six years ago, Rachhan had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Rachhan experiences ear fullness, headaches, hearing loss, and ear discharge. He shared that he does not want to go to school because he is ridiculed by his friends when the teacher scolds him for not listening. As a result he has poor grades and it is difficult for him to communicate with other people. His parents are worried, but cannot afford expensive treatment for him. Rachhan traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 10th, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his right ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $925 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Rachhan was excited that he will start to feel better soon. He told us, "I hope that I can hear well and go back to school."

Kaliyan is a 27-year-old construction worker. He is an only child and his parents are divorced. He is currently living with his aunt. In his free time, he enjoys playing on his phone, playing football with his friends, and singing along to music. In May 2020, Kaliyan fell off of a motorbike and experienced paralysis of his right shoulder. He was offered physiotherapy at a government hospital, but his condition did not improve. He has since been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He has no movement in his right upper arm, and is unable to move his fingers or flex his wrist and elbow. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is helping Kaliyan receive treatment. On February 28th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he hopes to regain use of his right arm so that he can work. Now, he needs help raising $696 to fund his procedure and care. Kaliyan shared, "I am hopeful that I can return to work to help my family. This injury has been very difficult for me because I can only stay home now and am not useful to anyone."
